Girls on the Run is a non profit program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Last Sunday, thousands of young girls participated in the annual 5K fun run/walk at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds. The event, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont, included face painting, hair acessories by Goody, warm up activities, medals for all girls at the finish line and music. It was really amazing to see the exspressions on these girls' faces as they finished the race line and received their medals. I loved being there and photographing the day for BCBSVT.

Yes, you are!

BCBS mascot "scooter poses with the girls--

Look, there I am in the glasses!!!

One of the things I loved about the event was how much diversity there was in the kids who participated. So cool!

Crystal Rock and Cabot Cheese both stepped up with healthy and nourishing foods after the race.

Governor Jim Douglas gives the girls a pep talk!

The warm up begins!

...and the race is on!

such cool medals!

The first place finisher was way ahead of the rest as she came to the finish line to retrieve her medal!!

I loved watching all the parents and coaches celebrate with their kids as they finished the race together. They were all so proud.

Even this participant got her medal at the end!

Give-aways included mini size deoderants for the girls to try (hey, it was great to see them take it!)
